Party & Holiday Shopping Tips

I enjoy entertaining and I am often accused by my husband of “over doing it”. It is easy to plan for any occasion even on a budget.

When entertaining for the Holidays or any special occasion, go to the discount stores to find all of the serving dishes, glasses, utensils, and other accessories you need for planning your event. You can find inexpensive ways to decorate for your event and still have pieces that you can use again and again. I have found beautiful Mikasa serving pieces for as little as $5, extraordinary stemware sets for under $10, and classic white porcelain dishes ranging from $3 to $15. I just recently purchased several different glass and crystal vases and jars that I am going to use for a candy buffet at a baby shower. Each piece was under $8. After the shower, I will still have beautiful pieces that I can fill with flowers, candy, or festive holiday decorations at the next gathering.  These vases and jars were over $25 a piece at major department stores. I couldn’t find them cheaper at Walmart, and my vases were name brand, quality pieces.

During the holidays I want to put on a tremendous spread, but I don’t want to spend all of my time consumed in the kitchen. I have searched to find places that have pre-made holiday dinners. I was shocked to find that some of the dinners went up to $150 serving 4-6 people.  I finally found what I thought to be the best bang for my buck with quality food that I was proud to serve, Tom Thumb. They were the most reasonably priced, several locations, food was great and easy to heat and serve. This freed up my time to be with family, and I honestly don’t think I could have prepared everything that was included for the cost.
