Monte Cristo Sandwiches

I loved the Monte Cristo Sandwiches I used to get at Bennigan’s. Well, here in Texas they are a thing of the past, and I thought so were my days of enjoying those sweet and savory sandwiches. I decided to whip up my own version. It was an enormous hit here at my house. You could even make them smaller and shake up the boring sandwich tray.

Monte Cristo Sandwiches Recipe
  1. • Puff Pastry Dough
  2. • Ham and Turkey
  3. • Swiss and American Cheese
  4. • 1 egg
  5. • Powdered sugar
  6. • Honey mustard or berry preserves
  1. Make sure dough is thawed and lay on a lightly floured surface. Cut dough into squares. I cut my dough into four equal squares. Make an egg wash using the one egg and a tablespoon of water. Brush the squares with the egg wash. Place the ham, Swiss, turkey, and American cheese on half of the square. I like to do it at an angle.
  2. Fold the square over in half covering the filling and making sure to pinch and seal all the edges. You can use a pastry crimp or a fork. Using a pastry brush, brush the top with the egg wash. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Bake according to the pastry directions. Remove from oven and dust with the sugar and use the honey mustard or preserves for dipping.
